March 1, 2021

Dear friends,

A few days from now, it will have been a year since the IGSL campus had been placed under preemptive quarantine to protect the students, staff, and faculty from the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus. A week later, Metro Manila was placed on lockdown and our lives haven’t been the same since then. Today, however, I am glad to share some exciting news with you!

We welcome the newest members of the IGSL family, Dr. Cristopher and Mrs. Marlyn Uy. Effective today, Dr. Cris Uy will serve as President of IGSL. Cris and Marlyn are not new faces for many of us. They have been missionaries of Cru Philippines (formerly Philippine Campus Crusade for Christ [PCCC]) since 1990 and have served in its various ministries. Cris was PCCC National Director in 2011 before becoming Area Team Leader for Southeast Asia the following year. He has an MA in Development Studies (graduated cum laude) from the University of Sto. Tomas and an Executive Doctorate in Leadership from the University of Makati. For his dissertation, he created a development process model for leaders of Cru serving across distance and cultures. Cris and Marlyn have two children, Danielle and Sam. Danielle is a writer and editor while Sam is a freshman student at De La Salle University taking up Computer Science.

It has been an honor and a privilege to lead this dynamic multi-cultural community of leaders from different countries and sectors of society for the past 17 years. But there is a season for everything and I am grateful to pass on this God-given role with full confidence to the person that the Lord has provided. This is not goodbye, however, for I will still be part of the IGSL faculty.

I pray for your whole-hearted support for Cris and Marlyn just as you supported Cynthia and me. Some of the things we could pray for them specifically are:

Let me express my deep and sincere thanks to you, our dear ministry partners, for partnering with me and the IGSL community throughout all these years in helping fulfill the Great Commission strategically by developing servant-steward leaders. The Lord willing and together with you, we will continue to carry out this mission in these unprecedented times and into the post-pandemic world.

By God’s grace and for His glory,

Dr. Tom Roxas
