Alyse Thompson is the in-house counselor for IGSL students. She also mentors women students in her Iron Sharpening Group (ISG).
Alyse worked as a knowledge engineer/database administrator for several large companies in the US before crossing into the human services field. While earning her Masters in Biblical Counseling, she trained at The Family Place, a domestic violence agency, and in the Trauma Unit at Timberlawn Mental Health System, a world leader in the treatment of trauma disorders. Alyse served for several years as senior non-resident advocate at Brighter Tomorrows, a domestic violence agency in a neighboring community of Dallas.
She earned her professional counseling license in Texas shortly before moving to Wheaton, IL, in 2004, for her husband, Craig, to study in the PhD program at Wheaton College for Systematic Theology.
In Illinois, she served at Family Shelter Service as court advocate, medical advocate, counselor, group facilitator, internship coordinator, and clinical supervisor. Family Shelter Service is a non-profit agency that assists survivors of domestic violence. Alyse earned her certification as a Domestic Violence Professional in 2005, her professional counseling license in Illinois in 2007, and upgraded her Texas professional counseling license to be a supervisor in 2014.
She came to IGSL to serve as a counselor in August 2014, through the help of her sending mission agency, TeachBeyond. Her husband teaches theology at IGSL.
Alyse grew up in Carrollton, Texas, with parents and her two older brothers. She met Craig Thompson when they were in junior high school, and they got married in 1996, after a 10-year “dynamic” dating relationship.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and their cuddly cat, watching movies, listening to music, fitness activities, and creating arts and crafts, especially scrapbooking.
