BRIAN EDWARDS

Associate Faculty

EDUCATION
TEACHING AREAS
IGSL FACULTY MEMBER SINCE 2020

Brian Edwards is a philosopher, theologian, and minister. His doctoral work was in the area of moral philosophy, specifically exploring the human phenomenon of self-deception. He joined the IGSL faculty in 2020 and teaches in the disciplines of theology, Bible, and leadership.

Brian characterizes his approach to teaching as “discipleship through theological education.” Education begins in the classroom, but since the medium of ministry is relationship, learning deepens as Brian gets to know students in their homes and in cafés, and eventually in the pastoral setting of their local churches and communities. Brian sums it up this way, “I teach in the classroom and coach in the church.”

Brian was a Bible college instructor for fifteen years at the St. Trivelius Institute (formerly the United Theological Faculty) in Bulgaria. He has conducted leadership training in eastern Europe for more than a decade, and is a visiting professor in academic institutions around the world every year. Prior to his academic career, he served as a pastor in two churches in the United States. He is an ordained minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Brian has been married to Kathy for almost forty years. They have three children who have families of their own, scattered around the world in Great Commission service. Pastimes for Brian include conversation over coffee, discipling current students and mentoring former ones, reading biographies, hiking and camping, carpentry, and enjoying sports of all kinds. Brian’s passion is leading those bound by the duty to believe into the freedom to think for themselves.
