Course Overview
Discipleship is both a central theological theme in the Gospel of Mark and an ever-growing need of the global Church in these unprecedented and uncharted times. Thus, we need to ask this question, “How can we become faithful followers of Jesus in the midst of suffering and pain?” The Gospel of Mark unpacks the way of discipleship in a time of suffering, as modeled by Jesus, the Suffering Messiah. This course explores discipleship from the lens of Christology and of the Gospel as theological narrative. It also discusses the honor-shame motifs in Mark using the social-scientific perspective and relates how discipleship can be experienced by the Asian Church-steeped in honor-shame values–in light of the current needs and struggles in the 21st century.
